Firaxis Games has officially detailed the structural overhaul driving Sid Meier’s Civilization VII. The strategy title restructures human history into three distinct eras: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modernity, each featuring unique mechanics, resources, and building types.
Era Transitions & Leader Decoupling
- Age Transitions: At the conclusion of each Era, players select a new civilization based on historical paths or fulfilled unlock criteria while retaining their chosen Leader persona.
- Independent Commanders: Military units stack under designated Commanders who accumulate experience, skill points, and combat bonuses across campaigns.
- District Expansion: Urban tiles expand organically across adjacent terrain hexes, removing worker micro-management in favor of direct city planning menus.
Engine & Performance Enhancements
The updated graphics engine supports full 4K procedural terrain rendering with real-time seasonal weather shifts. Cross-platform multiplayer and cross-progression are supported at launch.
