The latest Age of Empires IV patch from World’s Edge shipped on June 1, 2026, and the headline changes are concentrated in two places: a sweeping Jin Dynasty tuning pass that cleans up several long-standing bugs, and a cross-civilization balance update that touches more than twenty factions in service of the Summer 2026 ranked season. The patch also retrofits the console controller UI onto PC and Steam Deck-class handhelds, and rotates the competitive map pool to a fresh Dry Arabia, Cliffside, Craters, Hill and Dale, Migration, Danube River, West Lake, Himeyama, and Highwoods lineup for 1v1.

What changed: World’s Edge shipped Age of Empires IV patch 16.2.10604 on June 1, 2026, tuning the Jin Dynasty and more than twenty factions for the Summer ranked season. Why it matters: The pass reworks the Abbasid Trade Wing, rotates the ranked map pool, and brings the console controller UI to PC and handhelds. Who should care: Age of Empires IV ladder players, and anyone following the road to the Raiders of the North expansion in Fall 2026.

How it works

The Summer ranked season

The patch is delivered as build 16.2.10604 and applies to PC (Steam, Microsoft Store, Xbox App), PlayStation 5, and Xbox. It lands during the Summer ranked season, which kicked off on May 7, 2026, and runs through the end of August at 10 a.m. PT. That start date was moved up from the usual first-day-of-the-month schedule so the season could align with the Yue Fei’s Legacy release; future seasons are planned to begin on the first day of a quarter-month at 10 a.m. PT.

As of the May 12, 2026 minor patch 16.1.10056, the team also disabled Ranked Decay while it rethinks that system, so ladder ranks are not eroded by inactivity this season.

The Jin Dynasty

On the balance side, the Jin Dynasty receives the most direct attention. Grassland Horse spawn time in the Feudal Age is reduced from 90 to 75 seconds, the Mountain Hall is fixed to always start at 100 Karma (it previously spawned at any value from 0 to 100), and a long list of conversion, projectile, gathering, and VFX bugs are cleaned up.

Bedcrossbows and the Greatwall Bastion Bedcrossbow had their damage numbers buffed in the May 12 minor patch (Bedcrossbow base attack 7 to 8, Greatwall Bastion 14 to 28), and the June patch follows up with a separate set of fixes rather than a second buff.

Mohe Tribesman attack values were raised across all tiers in the May 12 patch (base 4 to 5, veteran 6 to 7, elite 7 to 8) to address community feedback that Jin felt weak.

Other factions

Several other factions receive what amounts to a balance pass aimed at the upper end of the ladder. Sengoku Daimyo, which the community had flagged as overperforming, was hit in the May 12 minor patch with:

  • a doubled Horse Training cost (50 Food 125 Gold to 100 Food 250 Gold)
  • a movement speed reduction (10% to 5%)
  • slower Ryokan healing (4 health every 5 seconds to every 6 seconds)
  • a slightly weaker Sword Hunt Statue (40% to 35%)
  • meaningful Yatai nerfs including a base gather rate cut from 20 to 10 and a repair rate cut from 20 to 5 per second. The June patch then reworks the Abbasid Trade Wing, renames it the Administrative Wing, and rebalances the Golden Age progression into five tiers at 10, 20, 30, 50, and 75 buildings with new bonuses including construction speed, Camel Rider damage, and Trader income.

The Ottomans

The Ottomans are nudged slightly down in June:

  • Sipahi cost increases to 120 Food 45 Wood, production time rises to 31 seconds.
  • The Sipahi Fortitude ability bonus attack speed drop from 50% to 40% arrived earlier, in the April 30, 2026 Update 16.1.9737.
  • The Golden Horde Torguud’s health drops from 220 to 200
  • The Stockyard cost rises from 250 to 275 Wood
  • A Kipchak Archer Incendiary Arrows damage bug is corrected.
  • Knights Templar Pilgrim income is reduced by roughly 10% (the 130 Gold cap is unchanged).
  • Order of the Dragon Gilded Villager gather rate drops one point from 28% to 27%.

Lower win-rate buffs

Buffs skew toward the lower end of the win-rate spectrum.

Map changes

Map changes are extensive.

  • Dry Arabia’s 1v1 neutral sheep count drops from 10 to 6, neutral markets are no longer allowed to spawn in the safe area behind a player’s Town Center, and the markets now mirror symmetrically.
  • Nagari gets a long list of symmetry fixes (central lake, starting pond, fish placement, mountain distribution)
  • Socotra gains a central Herbalist Hut plus a fix that prevents the map from spawning with a flooded center.
  • Hill and Dale is patched so forests can no longer form a wall dividing the map
  • Oasis has its boars and sacred sites moved out of the central clearing.
  • Several other maps receive deer, gold, and forest density adjustments. Two new Points of Interest are now available to modders: the Herbalist Hut, which heals nearby units of the controlling player for 2 health per second, and the Ancient Stele, which contains the Ancient Knowledge technology that increases the health of current buildings and military units by 5% for 400 Gold and 270 seconds of research time.

Build path

The foundation for the June patch was laid by the Season 13 / Yue Fei’s Legacy update.

  • Update 16.1.9737 was previewed on April 30, 2026, and shipped on May 7, adding the Jin Dynasty and a new 8-mission campaign.
  • The minor patch of May 12 tuned Jin and Sengoku Daimyo.
  • Patch 16.2.10604 on June 1 layered in the Trade Wing rework, the full cross-civ pass, the new ranked map pool, and controller UI on PC.
  • Patch 16.2.10884 on June 18 then added the option to switch between keyboard-mouse and controller UIs on handhelds, and referenced Raiders of the North, the expansion that had been announced separately on June 7.
  • A subsequent 16.3.11214 update, beginning July 2, starts the monthly ranked map pool rotation system outlined in the patch notes.

On the roadmap, the only confirmed near-term addition is Raiders of the North for Fall 2026, which will add the Vikings and the Scots. The June 1 patch notes teased the fall expansion without naming it, and the June 18 patch notes explicitly referenced Raiders of the North as already announced. The “Coming Up” section of the June 1 notes also notes that seasonal events will be re-enabled shortly on a published schedule. There is no official comment on a ranked decay replacement, additional civilizations beyond Vikings and Scots, or future campaign content, and no rumored mechanics appear in the patch notes themselves.

Ranked structure changes continue to be incremental. The Season Two rank table, published on the Age of Empires support site alongside the broader ranked-season overhaul, redistributes rank point ranges so Gold and Silver are easier to achieve, Diamond and Platinum are harder, and Bronze encompasses fewer players. Season Points are now tuned to track Elo more directly, so matchmaking outcomes should more clearly correspond to displayed rank. Conqueror is unchanged in difficulty from Season One.
